Past Experience
Dr. Kingsbury received a teaching fellowship in 2003 and has lectured in a variety of settings on pediatrics, lactation and botanical medicine. In 2004, she was appointed acting chair of the Department of Botanical Medicine while Dr. DiPasquale was away on sabbatical. Dr. Kingsbury has been a lactation consultant for nine years, a certified doula for 10 years and has received the designation of registered professional herbalist from the American Herbalist Guild. She was also recently given the MaryAnn O'Hara Physician Leadership Award by the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington.
Current Roles
Dr. Kingsbury is currently the chair of the Department of Botanical Medicine at Bastyr University and teaches pediatrics courses for Bastyr's School of Naturopathic Medicine. She also has a private practice in Kirkland and has served as secretary and president of the Seattle-King County Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington.
Classes Taught
Dr. Kingsbury has taught a number of herbal sciences and botanical medicine courses including Materia Medica, Ethnobotany and medicine-making courses. She also teaches the pediatrics courses in the ND curriculum and a course on lactation management for the midwifery department.
Interests
Dr. Kingsbury has an enormous amount of interest in working on natural therapeutics for children. She is especially interested in educating the public on the importance of supporting lactating mothers and finding better approaches to childhood ailments. She also has an interest in medical history, especially in the evolution of herbal medicine.
Philosophy
Dr. Kingsbury likes to create a framework within which students can explore what interests them. The exploration process, when given with a guided curriculum, helps students to learn more about themselves and their learning styles as well as the content and tools they need to take with them.
