Education

  • BS in medical technology from Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, in 1974.
  • ND from Bastyr University in 1986.
  • Completed a two-year residency at Bastyr Center for Natural Health.

Past Experience
Dr. Guiltinan has been on the board of trustees at Harborview Medical Center since 1998, when she became the first naturopathic physician in the country to be elected to a public hospital board. Guiltinan is the past president of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) for which she served as president in 2007 and 2008. In 1995, AANP honored Guiltinan with the Physician of the Year award.

Current Roles
Dean of the School of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University; clinical supervisor at Bastyr Center for Natural Health; member of the board of trustees at Harborview Medical Center.

Interests
Dr. Guiltinan has a special interest in women's health and has contributed to several conferences, publications, and research studies regarding women's health and other issues, and her roles in this area have included: consultant to an ongoing trial on alternative therapies for menopause with Group Health; consultant to the University of Washington School of Medicine on the introduction of CAM curriculum; expert member of the Washington State Department of Health Bio-terrorism Preparedness Advisory Committee; past peer reviewer for the American Journal of Public Health, Alternative Medicine Review, and Journal of Naturopathic Medicine; and author of "Naturopathic Management of Fibrocystic Breast Disease" for the Journal of Natural Medicine. She has written articles for the International Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, the Annals of Internal Medicine and others.

Philosophy
Dr. Guiltinan emphasizes the concepts of treating the cause of a problem, supporting the body's own healing process and encouraging patients to create their own wellness even in the face of serious illness. Dr. Guiltinan uses nutrition, plant medicine and homeopathy in her practice and believes that air, water, food, touch, love and laughter are some of the most powerful healing agents.
