*Construction alert for SR 522
The City of Kenmore will be completing several improvements to SR 522 to increase safety, improve transit reliability and ease congestion. Learn more about the planned construction along SR 522. Construction work is currently taking place and will continue through 2009. Please expect delays and plan accordingly.
Early Summer Traffic Shift on SR 522
On Monday evening, June 16, 2008, crews will be taking the southern most lane of eastbound SR 522 from 80th Ave. NE to the eastern city limits of Kenmore. Crews are installing stormwater crossings and finishing work on top of the large retaining wall that runs long the south side of SR 522. To do this work crews will be shifting the two southern lanes to the north eliminating the middle two-way turn lane. This initial traffic shift will be in place for approximately 2-3 weeks.
Once work has been completed on the south side of the roadway the lanes will be shifted to the south to allow crews to work along the north side. The middle two-way turn lane will remain closed. This second traffic shift will be in place for approximately 4-5 weeks. During the traffic shifts all left turns from 80th Ave. NE to the eastern City limits will be temporarily eliminated.
Detour Route
A detour route will be in place throughout the traffic shifts on SR 522 to allow access to businesses and residences as well as 83rd Pl. NE for eastbound traffic. Traffic heading eastbound on SR 522 will need to continue into Bothell where they can turn left onto NE 180th St.
Burke-Gilman Trail Detour
The 73rd Ave. NE underpass opened in June 2008 as did the section of trail between 68th Ave. NE and 77th Ct. NE. The remaining section of trail between 77th Ct. NE and 83rd Pl. NE will stay closed as construction crews complete a retaining wall and widen the south side of SR 522. At approximately 77th Ct. NE, trail users will follow a ramp to NE 175th St. and follow that street until they are re-connected with the Burke-Gilman Trail at 83rd Pl. NE.
