The School of Applied Behavioral Science (ABS) was established at Bastyr University in 1992 in collaboration with Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS). The LIOS/Bastyr master of arts program has both a counseling track and a consulting and coaching track. The program's educational process features "real time" learning laboratories that integrate theory, self-awareness, and practical interpersonal and organizational skills. Training takes place within a strong learning community, and the curriculum is taught in a modular, residential format on a weekend schedule compatible with full-time employment. Faculty members are active practitioners in their fields.
LIOS was founded in 1969 and has provided academic programs since 1973. LIOS and Bastyr are affiliated based on their parallel dedication to improving and sustaining the health and well-being of individuals and systems from a holistic perspective. While the ABS degree program is accredited under Bastyr University's regional accreditation, LIOS manages the ABS admissions process.
