Angela Pifer, MS ('05), CN

Nutrition alumna

Bastyr University exceeded my expectations in many ways, and now my career is thriving! I have a private practice with two offices, where I run individual nutrition and group detoxification programs. I'm also a frequent contributor to local and national health and fitness publications, a public speaker on nutrition issues and a consultant to large organizations on wellness topics.

A major benefit of a Bastyr education is the holistic and hands-on approach to nutrition, which I would not have learned anywhere else. I always say eating healthy is about 10 percent food and 90 percent "what gets in the way." My instructors guided me to think beyond food and to focus more on the behaviors behind the food. Now in my private practice, I'm able to look deeper into what my patients are saying to help them finally achieve their health goals.

I feel fortunate to have moved through my master's program with the same intimate group of students and to have worked so closely with my professors. They were all willing to go above and beyond to help each of us succeed. The curriculum was difficult, but I expected nothing less from a university of this caliber. You won't get a better education anywhere, but be prepared to test your limits and come out the other side wiser and stronger.

I've always had the confidence and drive to go into business for myself. Bastyr gave me the education that made me an expert in my field. Together, the two equal sweet success.
