Bastyr has opened my eyes to the legacy I want to leave in my profession. I hope to be your basic old-fashioned family doctor. I plan to focus on births and treating entire families, and I love that I'm pursing that path through an education here. The University is not only teaching me all about medicine, but is showing me how my individuality can better serve my future patients.
The people here are what I appreciate most about my education. It's an extremely challenging school and there is so much information to take in over a few short years, but the faculty goes above and beyond to assure knowledge and confidence in all topics. It's obvious they are truly here to produce the best clinicians possible. And among the students, a community is built in the first year that continues throughout the program. The rigorous nature of the education creates an indescribable camaraderie with one's peers.
It's also amazing to have a garden where I can touch, feel and taste all the herbs I learn about. Being at a school located next to St. Edward State Park has given me a wonderful excuse to take some much-needed studying breaks.
As a mother with a 2-year-old child, Bastyr has done more than I ever expected in establishing a supportive environment for my learning while pushing me to be the most responsible clinician possible.
