Come learn more about how you can live with greater health and happiness. On Saturday May 30, Daniel Rosen, PhD, will share his expertise about "Living with Purpose: The Role of Attention in Creating Optimal Health." Then, on Saturday June 13, Cristen Harris, PhD, RD, will outline a holistic approach to eating well in "Tips for Mindful Eating." This series is offered in conjunction with "The Good Life: Books for Better Living," a series cosponsored by Bastyr University and Tom Douglas' Seattle Kitchen. • Bastyr is also offering community education classes to enhance your health-related goals this spring. On May 30, learn how to give therapeutic massages to friends and family at Massage Made Easy. Also on May 30, learn a do-it-yourself approach to plant medicines at Weeds, Worts and Roots: Foraging for Edible and Medicinal Plants in the Urban Environment. Find out more and view a full list of classes.

Bastyr University Breaks Ground on New Student Housing Project
Bastyr is pleased to announce plans to develop an eco-friendly student "village" on campus that will more than triple the University's student housing capacity. This new group of 11 cottage-style buildings will have the capacity to house 132 students and will be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2010. Designed to fit into the campus' natural environment, the LEED-certified residences will help minimize the number of commutes to campus, reduce pollution and traffic on local roads, and enhance the sense of community at Bastyr. We broke ground on May 8 with a special ceremony to mark the beginning of construction. View an architect's renderings of our new housing project and learn more.

Explore Your Interests Through Double Majors and Electives
Regardless of which degree you pursue, Bastyr offers you the opportunity to learn about subjects in other majors and programs, including plant medicines, Oriental medicine, the art and science of exercise, the effects of food on health, the mind-body connection in psychology, and much more. Double majors, electives, and evening and weekend lectures are just a few ways to discover more about the vast assortment of topics inside the world of natural health. Learn more about double majors and electives for undergraduate students at Bastyr.

Alumni Profile: Herbal Sciences Graduate Embraces Bastyr's Garden as a Teaching Tool
Jenny Perez, BS (’05), an herbal sciences graduate, was always interested in plants. Growing up in Texas, she had a part-time job at a plant nursery and studied with a botanist. By enrolling in Bastyr’s herbal sciences program, she turned her interests into a career. She now teaches classes for Bastyr’s Department of Botanical Medicine and works part time managing the Bastyr Medicinal Herb Garden. "It's amazing to be able to learn about plants in a natural setting like we have at Bastyr. It's a living, breathing resource," she says. Read more about Perez.
