About the Bastyr University Chapel

Wedding at Bastyr University Chapel

Our chapel is an ideal setting for the perfrect wedding. The exquisite European-style chapel was created in 1958 with the highest quality workmanship of its time, and it continues to radiate the devotion with which it was built. Nearly five stories high and 140 feet long, it is home to 31 handcrafted stained glass windows and brilliant glass mosaic artwork. The chapel has handcrafted altars and columns of imported marbles, terrazzo floors, wooden pews, oak paneling and a choir loft. The carved wooden pews run length-wise along the chapel, making the procession of the bride and groom a truly spectacular sight for all ceremony attendees. The chapel and choir loft can seat up to 450 people.

Outside Grounds

Garden and Gazebo at Bastyr University

There are two locations on Bastyr grounds for a lovely outdoor wedding. One is next to Bastyr University's medicinal herb and culinary garden, a unique, student-maintained oasis of medicinal herbs and plants. Created in 1997 with 65 species of herbs, the garden now encompasses more than 250 species of herbs and crops and continues to expand. A second outdoor option is our gazebo that holds about 35 people and a nearby tent that accommodates up to 75 people. There is room for an additional tent which allows  for up to 150 guests. There are no exterior lights, so weddings must be held during natural daylight hours.

The Setting

The Bastyr University chapel, on the Kenmore campus of Bastyr University, is an internationally acclaimed university for training natural medicine and health professionals. The facility rests on 50 acres of fields and woodlands on the northeast shore of Lake Washington, just 10 mileWedding at Bastyr University Chapels from both downtown Seattle and Bellevue. Adjacent to the beautiful, 316-acre St. Edward State Park, it is surrounded by evergreen forests, streams and secluded beach access to Lake Washington. Miles of nature trails wind through much of the adjacent park. The school also is available for weekend conferences, workshops, spiritual retreats and even private retreats for individuals wishing to “get away.” Fifteen of the larger classrooms and meeting areas in the University are available to the nonprofit community for use as classrooms, conference rooms and retreat sites. Food services, overnight accommodations, the surrounding grounds and parking areas also are available.

Who can be married here?

Both members of the Bastyr community and the public may rent the chapel for weddings. If you are not a student, staff, faculty member or alumni, you can hold your wedding here with a contribution to the University at the Bastyr Circle Sponsor level of $250 or more. A tax-deductible contribution at the $250 rate is already included in fees listed on our Pricing and Rate Sheet. This contribution helps offset operating costs associated with the upkeep of the building, including the chapel.

Couples of any faith are welcome to conduct their wedding ceremonies here. Each couple is responsible for finding an appropriate officiant to perform their ceremony.
