Past Experience

Dr. Smith served as the first Chief Resident of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr Center, focusing on diabetes and cardiovascular disease. During his residency he also collaborated in conducting clinical research. He has completed preceptorships in cardiology at Group Health Cooperative, and the University of Washington Diabetes Clinic as well as both Family and Internal Medicine.

His passion and expertise for integrated holistic care has led him to opportunities such as speaking at Georgetown University to the International Congress for Educators in Complementary and Integrative Medicine, presenting at the American Diabetes Association Expo in Seattle and presentation of clinical research at the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians Convention.

Before embarking on his naturopathic medical degree, Dr. Smith worked as a physical therapy aide at Northwest Hospital and West Seattle Physical Therapy. He also helped run a rehabilitation clinic at Northwest Hospital, and was involved in research at Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Smith's clinical interests include cardiovascular health, diabetes, weight loss and men's health. As a Seattle native, he is excited to connect with the local community as a physician. He enjoys spending his time off participating in Seattle soccer and volleyball leagues, supporting the Seattle Sounders, kayaking on Lake Union, spending time with friends and family and, when able, traveling.

Dr. Smith believes that healing is a process that emerges inherently from the body. He believes his role as a physician is to facilitate healing by supporting the patient – mind, body, spirit and community – by matching the appropriate level of therapeutic intervention to the severity of disease. Dr. Smith focuses on patient centered care in which patient values, clinical expertise, and shared medical decisions result in a more satisfying and holistic health experience.
