This course trains childbirth educators and prenatal yoga instructors to teach the Spinning Babies® approach to pregnant parents. Participants will learn how to teach pregnant parents the Spinning Babies view of birth anatomy and fetal positioning, the Daily Essentials, the Three Sisters of Balance, and the Three Levels of the Pelvis. Participants will use the question  "Where is baby in the uterus and pelvis?” to help understand possible causes of a long labor, while exploring which birth positions and body balancing techniques can support labor progress.

Objectives 

  1. Introduce Spinning Babies® approach to parents in a simple, empowering, parent-centered manner
  2. Teach the instructions, benefits and contraindications for activities promoted in this class
  3. Introduce birth anatomy and describe the role of three soft tissue structures on fetal position
  4. Introduce some Daily EssentialsSM activities and why they support comfort in pregnancy and help prepare for birth
  5. Introduce and demonstrate the Three Sisters of BalanceSM (Rebozo Manteada, Forward-leaning Inversion, and Sidelying Release) and the anatomy addressed by each
  6. Describe why the Three Sisters of BalanceSM add comfort, help prepare for birth and can ease a long or stalled labor
  7. Compare the flexion/extension effect on descent of the LOT and ROT babies
  8. Introduce the Three Levels of the Pelvis to parents and show birth positions to open each level
  9. Identify external signs of a non-progressing labor and how the Three Sisters of Balance may help resolve common issues contributing to labor stalls
  10. Deliver Spinning Babies® Parent Class materials to students (handouts, eBook and checklists) online through provided form
  11. Access Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator materials online and complete certification
  12. Identify correct use of Spinning Babies® trademark as listed in the style sheet and do’s and don’ts of brand usage for Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educators
  13. Correspond with the Spinning Babies office for needs and administrative support

Faculty

Jennifer Walker CD, SpBT is an experienced doula and co-founder of JJ Doula Training, a comprehensive education program. Jennifer is currently the Chair of the NBvD (Dutch Doula Association). Jennifer works internationally offering lectures and workshop on topics related to understanding anatomy and physiology as a basis for respectful and effective care; continuous support of labour; birth trauma and birthing positions. Jennifer’s work often involves creating collaboration and understanding between disciplines. She finds great joy in bringing doulas, midwives, doctors, and bodyworkers together to improve care for women and babies. Canadian Jennifer Walker lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 2006 she left her career in theatre production and consulting to become a birth doula, one of the first certified doulas in the Netherlands. She was a speaker at the 2012 Human Rights in Childbirth Conference in the Hague. Jennifer has her HBO diploma in Foundations of Western Medicine. She is the mother of two teenaged sons.

Gail Tully (CPM) is a certified professional midwife who began her midwifery studies preparing for a breech baby's homebirth in 1983. Expecting to photograph, Gail found herself already receiving the baby as the midwife entered and declined to take over. Gail is the founder of www.SpinningBabies.com which is a top resource for pregnant women with breech positioned babies and world renown approach to physiological birthing. Retired from primary care, she enjoys being called out to an occasional breech birth. Gail Tully is the author of The Belly Mapping Workbook (2005), Resolving Shoulder Dystocia video (2011), Daily Essentials video, Spinning Babies Parent Class video (both 2014), Spinning Babies Quick Reference (2015), and Breech Birth; Quick Guide (2016).
