Description: Essential oils may be one of the most effective ingredients for complete care, protection and regeneration of the skin. They have holistic potential that will treat skin conditions while simultaneously relieving emotions that may be a direct cause or aggravating the skin. By learning skin anatomy and physiology, the essential oil compounds that best address the functions of the skin and the many cosmetic application methods, you can effectively select essential oils for skin and spa products.
This seminar will explore the effect of diet and lifestyle on skin health, called “beauty inside out.” The importance of using high quality natural cosmetic ingredients with essential oils will be discussed along with an explanation of active and functional ingredients used in skin care.
The seminar is 20 hours, and includes 17 hours of classroom experience and three to six hours of self-study. Classroom experience will include lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice. To augment the kit of essential oils that you will bring to class, additional materials, bases and oils will be supplied by the instructor (approx. $50 value).

Location: Bastyr University Kenmore Campus, room Friday #220 - Sat & Sun room 284 is on the 2nd floor by the library. Bastyr University is housed in an older facility with fluctuating interior temperatures; it is advisable to wear layers. Also, Bastyr is a “fragrance-free” campus.

Jimm Harrison, Cosmetologist and Certified Aromatherapist
Jimm Harrison founded the Phytotherapy Institute in 1995 to advance education in essential oil and plant therapy. He was the first cosmetologist invited by Harvard University and MIT to discuss the impact of essential oils in skin care.
Jimm has been conducting certification programs and lectures in essential oil therapy for massage, spa therapy, cosmetology and medical esthetic institutions across the country since 1993, including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He is the author of Aromatherapy: Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils for Esthetics, and has developed natural/organic skin care products for the professional and retail markets.
