Dr. Safiya McCarter is a Naturopathic Physician licensed to practice medicine in the state of Washington. In addition to her private medical practice she serves as adjunct faculty at Bastyr University in the School of Naturopathic Medicine and Department of Midwifery, the ND Alumni Admissions Advisor and Co-Chair of the Multicultural Mentorship Group, an initiative of the Bastyr University Center for Social Justice and Diversity.
Upon completing the ND program, Dr. McCarter was selected as the Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow for the 2010-2011 academic year where she gained additional experience teaching doctoral students both in didactic and clinical settings. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she worked alongside the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Clinical Dean of Naturopathic medicine and core clinical and didactic faculty in the revision of the curriculum for the School of Naturopathic Medicine. Her area of focus during the curriculum revision process involved the incorporation of multiculturalism within the Naturopathic Medicine curriculum.
Dr. McCarter is a passionate educator and presenter on topics regarding Cultural Awareness and diversity. She is particularly interested in the intersection of diversity, healthcare and medical education. She has had the pleasure of presenting on these topics as a featured panelist and conference presenter in the Seattle area. In addition, she has provided diversity trainings and presentations for staff, core clinical and didactic faculty as well as medical students at Bastyr University.
Dr. McCarter’s clinical interests include pediatrics and women’s health. Her clinical approach incorporates psychological and emotional health and forming a partnership with her patients.
