After the births of both my first and second child, I decided that becoming a midwife was my life's work. After many twists and turns, including the birth of my third child and a long and successful bodywork/educator career, I finally made that dream a reality. My clinical rotations included low and high-risk hospital midwifery and gynecologic care along with home and birth center births. I am now the owner, Executive Director and midwife at Northern Arizona's only accredited birth center serving women and their families locally and regionally.

Interests

In my spare time, I love to hike, dance, travel, cook with local foods, read, play cards or cribbage and spend as much time as possible with my husband, kids and extended family and friends. I recently picked up the guitar again and look forward to bringing music back into my life.

Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is that we learn and grow together; I as a guide to the most updated essential information and the student as the active participant who adds to the content with their own interpretation of the material. I believe in including a variety of learning styles including active, kinesthetic learning models to assist in bringing the headier and rote-memorization information “into the body” for increased clarity. I make every effort to truly listen and I am open to suggestions and differing opinions. I have taught intelligent adults long enough to know and admit that I can make mistakes, which facilitates growth as an educator and human being. I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to be an active participant and will strive to make that happen in the classroom/online experience.
