Sara Alvarado is a Naturopathic Physician at Rainy City Natural Medicine, a Seattle based practice she started in 2014, where she specializes in primary care pediatrics and reproductive health. She is also a Licensed Midwife at Rainy City Midwifery, which provides comprehensive prenatal, delivery, lactation/feeding and postpartum care. Sara teaches the Intro to Complementary and Alternative Medicine course for first year midwifery students, along with assisting in the Health Assessment class. She serves as an evaluator for the Basic Clinical Assessment and the Advanced Clinical Exam.
Dr. Alvarado began practicing midwifery after graduating in 2013. In 2017, she bought Rainy City Midwifery, the practice that was her first preceptor site. She has served as a clinical preceptor for the Department of Midwifery since 2014.
Dr. Alvarado’s clinical interests include breastfeeding/chestfeeding medicine, lactation challenges, newborn feeding evaluation and management, thyroid conditions, reproductive/sexual health, fertility and primary care pediatrics. Her personal interests include Vinyasa yoga, science fiction novels, political theory, veganizing recipes and hiking. She is a native Spanish speaker.
Dr. Alvarado believes in meeting patients where they’re at on their path to wellness, and in working as a team toward achieving goals and optimizing health. She has loved working on a team of four midwives and believes this has been instrumental at providing well-rounded clinical care. Her focus is on integrating complementary medicine with standards of care where appropriate. Her favorite patients are newborns, infants and children, but she regards whole family medicine of the utmost importance within our current healthcare climate and system. But really, it’s newborns that are “her people.”
