Sara Alvarado is a Naturopathic Physician at Rainy City Natural Medicine, where she specializes in pediatric primary care and reproductive health. She is also a Licensed Midwife at Rainy City Midwifery, where she works on a team of 3 midwives providing comprehensive prenatal, delivery and postpartum care. Sara will be teaching in the Department of Midwifery for the Winter 2017 quarter.

Education:

BA in Biology from The University of Texas - 2008

Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine - 2013, Bastyr University

Master of Science in Midwifery - 2014, Bastyr University

Past Experience:

Dr. Alvarado began practicing midwifery after graduating in 2013 and has since started her own naturopathic private practice. She has served as a clinical preceptor for the Department of Midwifery since 2014.

Interests:

Dr. Alvarado’s clinical interests include breastfeeding medicine, newborn feeding evaluation and management, thyroid conditions, reproductive/sexual health and primary care pediatrics. Her personal interests include Vinyasa yoga, science fiction novels, political theory, veganizing recipes and hiking. She is a native Spanish speaker.

Philosophy:

Dr. Alvarado believes in meeting every patient where they are on their path to wellness and working as a team toward achieving goals and optimizing health. Her favorite patients are newborns, infants and children, but she regards whole family medicine of the utmost importance within our current healthcare climate and system.
