Past Experience

In addition to 20 years of clinical midwifery practice in community settings (home and birth center) I am immediate past President of the Midwives Association of WA State and previous Chair of the Joint Underwriting Association for Midwives and Birth Centers (JUA).

Interests

  • Valerie likes to go outside; hike, backpack, kayak, nordic ski, garden, walk and sail. She especially likes to go outside with her family.
  • Social justice; now is the time.
  • Promoting the midwifery model of care from within communities.

Philosophy

Professional adult education should inspire, instruct and liberate us to be the best providers and advocates for the health of individuals and society we can possibly be. It is my expectation that graduates of the Bastyr Department of Midwifery will be among the most dedicated and inspired leaders in their chosen profession.
