Nikol Wells is a third-year student in the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program. She grew up in the greater Seattle area, moved to Portland for a couple of years to finish her BS in Integrative Health Sciences at NUNM, then moved back to Seattle, the place she loves to call home. She lives in a shared home with a couple of close friends, and is really familiar with the east side (Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Woodinville) which is where she spends most of her time, enjoying the company of friends and family. She loves the city, what is has to offer, and the opportunities present. The things that fill her with joy and appreciation include live music, spending time outdoors by the water, exploring the numerous National Parks in the near area, and her studies at Bastyr.
Nikol is currently exploring opportunities in research at Bastyr, something that has recently peaked her interested after an Advanced Research Methods course taught by Dr. Cynthia Wenner. In that class, she applied an extract of Scutellaria lateriflora (Blue Skullcap) on human breast cancer cells to determine the cytotoxicity of the extract. The knowledge she gained during that class made her curiosity grow, and she is excited to start her next research project. She is also the Secretary of Bastyr’s Sports Medicine Club, where she gets experience practicing skills at the Seattle Marathon and numerous volleyball tournaments throughout the year where the club volunteers as the on-site medic team. She loves these events because she gets to practice massage techniques, athletic taping, stretching techniques, and physical manipulations under the supervision of very knowledgeable NDs who specialize in sports medicine. She is not sure what she wants to do after graduation, but plans to continue learning as much as she can while at Bastyr, where she can continue to explore curiosities, develop new passions and grow into a dynamic and determined doctor. She is eager to see where her path takes her!
