Dr. Morris was originally trained as an ecologist and environmental scientist. Studying and supporting ecosystems became an ideal foundation for understanding and supporting human health from a broad naturopathic perspective. Ideally there is little difference between supporting human health and environmental health. Whats good for an individual is also good for the planet and the various creatures and systems we share it with.

Biography

Dr. T.R. Morris brings over two decades of expertise to the Bastyr Center for Natural Health (BCNH), where he will supervise students specializing in functional medicine shifts starting Summer 2025. Dr. Morris focuses on a deep, analytical, and patient-centered approach to addressing complex, long-term, and chronic health issues.

His clinical practice has cultivated specialties in a range of challenging conditions, including complex autoimmune conditions, digestive issues, cognitive concerns, hormonal imbalances, toxic exposures, and chronic infections. He partners with patients to identify the root causes of illness, blending evidence-based conventional and alternative approaches, and promoting optimal health through comprehensive lifestyle support.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Morris has been instrumental in shaping the field of functional medicine. As the former Associate Director of Medical Education at the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), he was a chief architect and manager of the IFM Certified Practitioner (IFMCP) program. Dr. Morris was a member of the inaugural IFMCP graduating cohort in 2013 and has since played a key role in training and assessing 20 IFMCP testing cohorts. He contributed significantly to the program's growth, which now includes over 2,500 certified practitioners globally, with an additional 3,000+ candidates pursuing certification. His contributions at IFM also include serving as the internal lead for three of the six core training modules, faculty for the Environmental Medicine module, and developing the clinical decision trees and other educational tools still in use at IFM.
