Paula Pelletier-Butler, DM, MS, LM, CPM, is the Dept Chair and Associate Professor in the Midwifery Department at Bastyr University.

Biography


Dr Paula Pelletier-Butler is a graduate of Jefferson University's Doctor of Midwifery program. Beginning with a nursing background, she has worked within the reproductive justice field since 1986. Her doctoral dissertation was on the global implementation of midwifery centers as an innovative maternity care solution and her clinical midwifery experiences include home, birth center, hospital, and family planning/gyn settings. Paula recently retired after 10 years as the owner and director, as well as a midwife, at Flagstaff Birth and Women’s Center, and is a past board member and Vice President of the American Association of Birth Centers. She spent 2022 working with JHPIEGO in India to assist with the implementation of standardized midwifery education and the development of midwifery-led birth centers and has spent time with many birth centers both nationally and internationally. She is currently an educator and consultant and is on faculty here at Bastyr and also with City, University of London.
