Director of University Food Services (#19-032)


Bastyr University has an opportunity for a Director of University Food Services on our Kenmore, WA campus who will support the University’s mission and vision through a food service operation that promotes whole foods and environmental consciousness.

This individual will oversee daily food service activities including menu development, procurement, food preparation and service, inventory management and accounting, plus staffing and catering. The Director will maintain an operation that supports effective team work and satisfaction among employees as well as a creative and effective learning space for nutrition and culinary arts students.

The Director will hold full accountability for budget development and management and will serve as a liaison with other University departments as well as external organizations. This individual will be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills; be organized with attention to detail; motivated to support marketing and food sales; knowledgeable about whole foods quantity food production, composting and environmentally-focused stewardship of food service resources. 


Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, restaurant management, food service, food service business or culinary arts plus culinary training. Three to five years’ experience directing an institutional food service operation with demonstrated evidence of meeting or exceeding goals for customer satisfaction, kitchen sanitation and safety, profitability and employee retention.

The successful candidate will have a career history that includes progressive experiences in food service operations prior to management experience; experience teaching or training staff or others in areas related to food service; the ability to work well with diverse student, faculty, staff and professional groups within and outside of the University. Consideration will be given for appropriate combinations of experience and education.
