Senior Building Engineer


Bastyr University is looking for a full-time Senior Building Engineer in our Facilities Department for our Kenmore Campus. 

Compensation:  $21.50-27.50/hr, DOE

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

SENIOR BUILDING ENGINEER (Boiler and Electrical)

  1. BOILER-Operation and maintenance of the boiler system related to heating and domestic hot water, including all unit ventilators, radiators, convectors and HVAC systems, including controls.
  2. BOILER-Maintains logbooks, maintenance records, and technical data files related to the operations and maintenance of the boiler system and related equipment.
  3. ELECTRICAL -The electrical operation and maintenance of electrical systems. Maintain building integrity on campus and student village. Provide first line back-up of requests from Manager.
  4. Coordinates administration of CMMS work request / planned maintenance system task creation, maintenance, and assignment of work in conjunction with Manager.
  5. Carry cell phone 24/7 to provide first response as needed.
  6. Maintains membership on the Emergency Response Team, and Safety Committee.
  7. Demonstrates high technical standards of the trade. Person shall exercise their technical level and assist building engineers with appropriate processes, standard methods, and safety etc. as needed.
  8. Includes all class 2 – Building Engineer requirements.


  1. Routinely performs appropriate maintenance, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, HVAC, locks, door hardware, and misc. maintenance tasks.
  2. Will have some weekend or night responsibilities for entire campus operations depending on work order requirements, which may include opening the building, appropriate boiler responsibilities, appropriate assistance in events, and emergencies.
  3. Carry cell phone for 24/7 responses, as available
  4. Provide general building maintenance as required, which may include opening the building, appropriate boiler responsibilities, appropriate assistance in events, and emergencies.
  5. Completes assigned tasks and uses CMMS daily to prioritize tasks.
  6. Maintains the campus buildings for proper operations with use of equipment in a safe manner using accepted safety procedures, such as confined space entry, hot work, ladders safety, lock out/tag out, etc.
  7. Consistent positive customer service and interpersonal skills with a Can Do attitude.
  8. Performs any other tasks as assigned to support the University. 
  9. Listed but not limited to:
      • Use heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and misc. carts/vehicles.
      • Use all types of power and hand tools common in construction and maintenance.
      • Use landscape equipment – mower, chainsaw, trimmers, pressure washer etc.


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Senior Building Engineer (Boiler), Grade 4 boiler license minimum requirement. A grade 3 boiler license preferred.
  2. Senior Building Engineer (Electrical), Electrical License minimum requirement. Past Experience a must and update on electrical code requirements. Grade 4 boiler license minimum requirement.
  3. Building Engineer, Grade 4 boiler license (minimum of two grade 4 license holders)
  4. Will be assigned some weekend or night responsibilities for entire campus operations depending on work order requirements and or demands of systems.
  5. Within 90 days of hire, must obtain a CPR and First Aid certification.
  6. Must have basic computer skills to include email, internet, CMMS and M.S. Office software.


  1. Minimum High School diploma or GED Equivalent.
  2. College or trade school preferred.
  3. Sustainable maintenance and trade licenses preferred.
  4. Basic computer competence in MS Office, email, internet, and CMMS software required.
  5. Ability to read, writes, speak, and understand the English language.


  1. SENIOR BUILDING ENGINEER -Two or more year’s minimum experience working with and operating Boilers and/or Electrical, which includes proper knowledge, handling and mixing of boiler chemicals and/ or electrical codes. Demonstrated high and/or technical knowledge of facilities trades.
  2. Two or more years of experience with the ability to work autonomously prioritizing workflow within a maintenance department. Experience in residential, commercial, or industrial environments preferred.
  3. Customer service experience, including progressively responsible tasks, preferably in institutional and/or school or university maintenance services.
  4. Three years of verifiable recent maintenance experience.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to lift 60 pounds may be required.
