Staff Accountant


Bastyr University has an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate to join our team as a Staff Accountant. Based at our campus in Kenmore, Washington, this position will be hybrid, in office 3 days per week. The Staff Accountant contributes to the timely processing of journal entries, cash receipt entries, reconciliations, reporting and analysis for our campuses in Kenmore, Seattle, and San Diego. This position will report directly to the Assistant Controller.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:
All new employees must provide proof of fully vaccinated status on or before their first workday. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.


  • Ensure accounting records, monthly accounting close activities, and variance analyses are properly prepared, maintained and explained in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with AP Accountant to manage payables processes including processing of weekly check runs and provide backup for AP functions.
  • Provide back up to the Student Accounts A/R office and assist with student loan reimbursements.
  • Additional responsibilities could include: Fixed Asset accounting, Lease accounting, Tax preparation or Clinic accounting.
  • Preparation of supporting schedules and respond to inquiries for audits.
  • Manage internal controls and related procedure documentation for assigned areas
  • Preform ad-hoc analysis, conduct research and resolve problems.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and drive projects to completion.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associated Degree in Accounting or at least 1 year of experience in an accounting or finance related environment
  • Non-profit and/or higher education experience highly desirable
  • Experience in computer accounting systems is a plus
  • Ability to enter data accurately and quickly with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal communications
  • Excellent customer service skills including the ability to work cross-functionally with vendors, department heads, staff, faculty and students in a highly collaborative work style
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate to advance skills in Microsoft Excel and Word


Exempt - $60-65K depending on experience and a comprehensive benefits package including 7 paid holidays plus a Winter Closure December 24th-January 1st. 96 hours of vacation and 96 hours of sick the first year.
