Composer Eric Whitacre and his longtime friend and collaborator, poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, have created their most expansive work to date: The Sacred Veil, a sensitive exploration of the fragile lines between birth, love, life, and loss. This poignant human story is a delicate, beautiful, and emotional composition that charts Silvestri’s journey through falling in love with his wife, the birth of their children, and her passing from cancer. The text is drawn primarily from Silvestri’s poetry and the words of his late wife, Julie.
Our presentation of this powerful piece is conducted by Dr. Steven Zopfi, in collaboration with our partner orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest.
This concert runs 70 minutes with no intermission.
