Provost
Bastyr University Provost Dr. Loraine Devos-Comby oversees the academic integrity of university degree and certificate programs, provides strategic leadership from a pedagogical perspective, guides academic deans and academic department affairs including the library, oversees institutional effectiveness, and serves as the university’s primary liaison to accrediting bodies. Dr. Devos-Comby’s actions are guided by what is best for learners and the university. She emphasizes student and faculty success by fostering optimal learning environments, research, and clinical service.
To her role, Dr. Devos-Comby brings a track record of leadership in higher education with a spirit of collaboration and communication. She is appreciated for her openness to the ideas of others, ability to unite professionals to resolve challenges, and her sensitivity to the concerns of faculty.
Dr. Devos-Comby brings more than a dozen years of experience in university administration. She previously served as Pacifica Graduate Institute Interim Provost for 18-months, and simultaneously worked as the vice president of institutional effectiveness & accreditation. For 10-years, Dr. Devos-Comby worked for the University of Arizona Global Campus (Ashford University) with increasing responsibilities cumulating in her role as director of institutional effectiveness. From 2004-2016 Dr. Devos-Comby conducted scientific research at San Diego State University (SDSU) and served as an adjunct professor. Prior to her position at SDSU, Dr. Devos-Comby taught social psychology as a lecturer for the Yale University Department of Psychology and worked as a project director affiliated with the Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS.
