Bastyr University is seeking to hire a highly-organized, self-starter and progressive HR leader to drive our people strategy, and join our dynamic team as our Associate Vice President of Human Resources (AVPHR). Bastyr University employs 320 full-time staff and faculty along with 400+ adjunct, casual, and student workers at four locations in the Seattle, Washington area and San Diego, California. This position is primarily based on our Kenmore, WA main campus.
What You Will Do:
The AVPHR serves as the most senior human resources office role at Bastyr University and is member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the University President. The AVPHR is responsible for leading a HR team of four HR professionals.
The AVPHR must have a comprehensive HR knowledge and experience in all HR functional areas and is responsible for delivering an aligned HR strategy, designing and implementing effective end-to-end HR solutions, and ensuring HR operational excellence. The AVPHR works collaboratively with the executive leaders to attract, hire, align, engage, develop, and reward a diverse and inclusive body of employees to meet its current and future needs. The AVPHR also partners with the executive leaders to ensure Bastyr University has an equitable workplace and campus climate, enabling their employees to contribute to their full potential.
The AVPHR is responsible for delivering progressive HR programs, policies, and processes for all HR functional areas: talent acquisition, onboarding, talent management, workforce planning, compensation, recognition, performance management, health (partially self-funded medical), wellness & retirement (403b), employee engagement, WA and CA employment law, Affirmative Action & other government related compliance requirements, employee relations, career development, learning & development, payroll, personnel records, and HR budgeting. In addition, the AVPHR serves as Title IX Coordinator for the University.
10-15 years of demonstrated, progressively increasing HR experience that includes 5+ years of HR management experience with direct reports.
Experience creating and implementing progressive HR strategies that provided optimal employee and organizational results.
Designed and drove HR programs that supported a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Experience creating and managing effective workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, employee career development, and retention programs.
Experienced organizational development leader recommending and implementing effective organizational designs and managing the change management process.
Expertise in developing employee policies, programs, and processes and leveraging HR intranet and other employee communication technologies.
Experience designing and implementing performance management systems, engagement surveys, and feedback tools.
Experience developing, securing, and delivering employee and management training programs.
Experience creating and managing compensation programs to include job architecture/structure, job levels, job classification, market analysis/benchmarking, employee job matching/mapping, and career paths.
Expertise in managing health (medical, dental, and vision - partially self-funded & fully funded), wellness, and retirement benefits programs.
Expertise with complying with California and Washington employment laws, EEOC, Affirmative Action Plans, and related government regulations.
Experience effectively managing employee relations, disciplinary issues, employee grievance resolution, and the termination process.
Experience developing and managing a HR budget.
Excellent oral and written skills as well as experience with Windows Office.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience is required.
Previous Human Resources experience in higher education, health organization, or other non-profit is desirable.
Knowledge of the employment relationship in higher education as it pertains to faculty is desirable.Experience managing payroll.
Master’s degree and/or specialized training desirable.
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP desirable.
