Third Campus Building Opens in San Diego

Members of the Bastyr University California community were treated to a welcome sight upon their return from spring break – more room on campus. In April 2015, the fast-growing University opened a third building with approximately 5,000 square feet to meet the increasing demand for space.

“The rate at which we are growing necessitates the additional square footage,” says Daniel Clark, Bastyr director of facilities. “The space issue is a good challenge to have and one that we feel we have addressed successfully.”

Among the amenities in the new building, located just a short walk from the school’s main campus and clinic buildings:

  • A new library where students can study quietly
  • Larger classrooms to house lecture classes
  • An expanded computer lab
  • A spacious indoor lounge with tables, chairs and kitchen amenities for students
  • A covered outdoor seating area
  • A leased outdoor fitness area complete with tennis, volleyball and basketball courts and showers, as well as a picnic area for sitting

The extra space is needed since Bastyr University California, which opened in the fall of 2012, is already outgrowing its Sorrento Valley location. With plans to have as many as 240 students studying naturopathic medicine and the introduction of a new Master of Science in Nutrition for Wellness coming in fall 2015, the opening of the new building could not come at a better time. Additionally, discussions are already under way to expand even further in the future, so stay tuned!
