Melanie Dickson, LM CPM is an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Midwifery Department of Bastyr University in the Fall Quarter. Year round she is a Licensed Midwife with Lake Washington Midwives at the Puget Sound Midwives and Birth Center, offering prenatal, birth, breastfeeding and postpartum care to birthing families. She also serves as Coordinator of the Quality Management Program of the Midwives' Association of Washington State, which oversees the Incident Review and Peer Review processes and allows midwives a safe, supported space to learn from challenging cases.
Melanie has been a practicing midwife in Washington State since 2006. Before that she was a naturalist and taught in outdoor education programs and habitat restoration projects in the Bay Area.
Midwifery Care Health Assessment since 2018
When not working, Melanie enjoys spending time with her husband and her two sweet, fierce daughters, and can often be found gardening, running, biking or paddle boarding.
My teaching philosophy has much in common with my midwifery philosophy. Just as there is no one right way to give birth, there is no one right way to be a midwife. Indeed there is so much strength in difference among midwives because we are able to serve so many different birthing people. My work as both a midwife, and as a teacher, is to provide information and resources, thoughtful suggestions, and to remind you to trust the process as it unfolds, and to do the hard work while at the same time trusting your own intuition--it will serve you well.
